Established in 1922, and designed by A.V. Macan, Marine Drive has developed, tested and produced some of Canada’s greatest amateur and professional golfers with countless awards and accolades. A proud member of the BC golfing community, Marine Drive has hosted the Canadian Men’s, Sr. Men’s, Women’s and Junior Amateur Championships, the 1992 World Amateur, the 1999 Ladies’ Commonwealth Trophy Matches, and many other events.

Marine Drive is currently seeking an Events Manager to lead our banquet and catering team.

Responsible for preparing all event documentation and coordinates with the culinary team, members and guests to ensure consistent, high level service throughout pre-event, event and post-event phases. Recognizes opportunities to maximize revenue opportunities by up-selling and offering enhancements to create outstanding events. Accountable for the day to day operations of the Banquet Department including staffing, cost controls, staff training, budgeting and active floor management during events.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

Event Planning and Execution

  • Accurately details all events to include: room set-up; food and beverage requirements; audio-visual requirements; and co-ordinate these details with all departments in the Club, to ensure a successful event for the guests
  • Conduct site inspections as required while highlighting the features and benefits of the facility as well as available services
  • Check room set-ups prior to event, ensuring all details are in agreement with client requirement and the Club standards in-conjunction with Dining Room Manager and Executive Chef
  • Handle administrative duties, typing, filing, function events, weekly events, post company name in meeting room signs, etc…
  • Prepare weekly reports, providing sales activities, booked business and action plans for the following week
  • Meet with F&B leadership team to review upcoming events on a daily basis
  • Schedules event staff to properly service events/functions
  • Conduct briefings with event service staff prior to each function
  • Delivers excellent customer service throughout the members and guests’ experience and encourages the same from other employees
  • Empowers employees to provide excellent customer service
  • Sets a positive example for guest relations
  • Coordinates and communicates event details both verbally and in writing to the members and guests and Club operations
  • Makes presence known to members and guests at all times during this process
  • Ensures billing accuracy and conducts bill reviews with the clients prior to processing the final bill
  • Maintain updated records of clients and prospective clients
  • Achieve annual revenue targets and goals as indicated by the financial budget

Food and Beverage Leader

  • Communicates the vision to all team members and leads by example. Reinforces the Marine Drive core values daily and inspires the team with his/her exciting vision for the future
  • Builds and maintains relationships with Members, guests, team members and senior management alike
  • Follows bar, beverage and wine control procedures exactly
  • Conducts recruitment and selection and training and development initiatives as well as performance management and employee coaching
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of payroll records
  • Flexibility with hours, as situations may arise that require extra hours to accomplish a specific task
  • Assist Clubhouse Manager in developing service standards and training programs
  • Participates in sales forecasts and budget processes
  • Manages client feedback, respond to customer complaints, resolves problems and gives out information
  • Uses conflict/resolution and problem solving skills
  • Strive for maximum efficiency and continual improvement of staff productivity
  • Participate on Health & Safety Committee, ensuring that the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WSIB procedures are being followed
  • Ensure the Clubhouse is well maintained, repaired and spotless at all times
  • Work with Marketing to design and implement a strategy to attract new business
  • Build relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Additional duties as assigned or required

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Diploma or certificate in hospitality or events is an asset
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a similar role is an asset
  • Strong administration skills and attention to detail
  • Strong Managerial skills
  • Professional grooming and presentation
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large and variable work load, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned work
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Team player
  • Ability to work late nights and weekends
